Immich Backup — Privacy Policy

Data accessed and purpose

The utility requests Google Drive file access to upload, list, inspect and download backup files. The granted permission covers Google Drive files broadly; the backup program restricts its operations to the configured private Immich Recovery folder. This folder restriction is enforced by the program, not by a folder-specific Google permission. Backups contain the owner’s photo and video files, associated metadata and Immich database records. File names, sizes, hashes and operational logs are used to check backup and recovery results.

Storage and access

Backup files are stored in the owner’s Google Drive account. OAuth authorization data is stored in a dedicated permission-restricted configuration on the owner’s computer. Temporary backup and restore pieces and verification records are also stored locally. The backup utility does not intentionally make files public or change their sharing permissions. Google processes stored files under its applicable terms and privacy policy. The owner and people separately authorized by the owner may access the computer or account.

Use and disclosure

Google user data is used to perform the owner’s backup, integrity verification and recovery operations. This backup utility does not sell that data, use it for advertising, or use it to train general-purpose AI models. Its use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Retention and removal

Previous backups and incomplete uploads are retained unless the owner separately authorizes their removal. Verified temporary staging pieces may be removed as part of bounded backup processing; source photos are preserved. The owner may revoke the connection through Google Account permissions and stop the local job. Revoking access does not delete existing backups; the owner controls their removal separately.
